Marie Antoinette

I <3 Marie Antoinette

Those who are close to know my current obsession with marie antoinette inspired things!.... my obsession started when i watched the marie antoinette movie by sofia coppola by kristen dunst.. I'm sure im not the only girl that swooned over the dresses, the scenery , the fashion and the jewellery!.... i think Miss Copolla succesfully breathes new life into the story of the french queen that allows viewers to relate to her... can you imagine being young and given all those luxurious things, all those diamonds, all those clothes??? No wonder she put France into debt.. what girl wouldn't  given the circumstances that no one can say "no" to everything your heart desires.... sigh..........and most importantly... the ability to wear those ball gowns everyday without anyone giving you a weird look like you've just escaped from the mental hospital... hahaha

It was known that she made 2 new dresses each day...each DAY~ imagine having over 700 dresses made for you in 1 year... nothing is worn twice (well at least she saved on dry cleaning bills huh? lol). Although we aren't able to dress like those french aristocrats anymore, but we can take some elements from those era and incorporate it into our current wardrobe... Marie wore a lot of silk dresses in pastel colors. I found dita von teese wearing this dress and i thought... hmm.. if Marie is alive today... that's exactly how she would dress!

bone china with print
Look at the bodice, the puffy skirt.. the ruffle details on the chest.... the print!!! ... it reminds me of the printing on bone china which is so royal and regal...  and the shoes...which by the way is a special edition marie antoinette inspired christian louboutin... (how appropriate).. i can imagine  myself walking into a room wearing that dress during a party... for a split second i would pretend that im royalty attending a royal party... lol(ok i'll stop daydreaming now).............

I've been thinking of making a gown for a family member's wedding party and i've been browsing on the internet for dress styles that i want... One designer that stood out is marchesa and vera wang..their romantic styles appeal to me , it's very marie antoinette-like(feminime yet elegant dresses with ruffles, that brings out your inner girly side)....There are a lot of talented dress makers in Indonesia that can replicate the dress style that you want just by showing them a picture..... The purple dress that im wearing in the blog profile is actually a replica of a marchesa dress that kate beckinsale wore....

gosh she's so gorgeous

what do you think?? pretty close to the real thing no???...

This is not the first time i've copied a dress style(because honestly who can afford a real marchesa dress unless you're the wife or daughter of a billionaire?) * i'm trying to justify my actions , ok??* lol...
that isn't my husband.. he's my brother.. lol
I copied a vera wang dress once, for my sister's wedding...i know what you're thinking... why the heck am i wearing a white ball gown to another person's wedding??? Granted.. in another country other than Indonesia i will probably get mauled by the bride if i wear a white ball gown to her wedding...lol.... but it's actually pretty common here, and i actually didn't pick the fabric color.. i asked for a light blue color ( i was in canada at that time and i faxed the dress design to my mom) When i came in for a fitting for the first time... i found out it was white... i was perplexed.....

awww. there's the bride...
Luckily on the wedding day, my sister had no problem standing out... her dress was full of crystals and she was wearing a lot of head ornaments(brides in indonesia really go over the top on their wedding day) I want to post a picture but i have to ask her permission first...oh well maybe not... maybe i can post a sideway photo of her so her face wouldn't show..... see how gorgeous she looks?? hahahahaha
anways i picked out a few styles that i like

i was thinking of the gown on the right with the neck piece...i like it because it's mermaid style and don't have any mermaid style dresses yet... Mermaid style dresses are sexier than ball gowns yet still maintain that feminime and regal feel ... and i love the neck piece detailing ... it's so...*you guessed it*.. marie antoinette.... sigh...

marie antoinette wearing a blue ribbon as a neckpiece

As an homage to Marie.. i'll probably make the dress an icy blue color too.. just like hers.....

Barbara Leber, black swan inspired gown
I also came across this black gown.... by Barbara Leber...I'm a sucker for detailing on the skirt vs the bodice.. i think a textured skirt is very elegant and classy...and those shoes are sooo avant garde aren't they??? i love pieces that sets you apart from everyone else...

anyways... out of the 2 dresses.. which one do you like better????

  1. Are you an aquarian? We tend to want to look unique rather than like everyone else. Cheers sister.
